Dr. Gregory Kushner, Veterinarian
Dr. Gregory Kushner has been a veterinarian for over 8 years, after graduating with honors from St. George’s University in 2016. With a lifelong love for animals, he finds the most joy in helping strengthen the bond between pets and their families with medicine, traditional and holistic. As a USDA-accredited vet, Dr. Kushner also assists in making sure pets can travel internationally with ease.
His hobbies include gardening, cooking with his homegrown vegetables, and hanging out with his many dogs and cats. His major interests in medicine include Internal Medicine, Oncology, and Dermatology. Originally from the Philadelphia area, he’s looking forward to continuing his veterinary career in the welcoming and sunny city of Miami!
Dr. Stephanie Acosta, Veterinarian
Dr. Stephanie Acosta, a Miami native and follower of Christ, earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Auburn University and has been working at Sunset Animal Clinic since May 2024.
Dr. Acosta’s connection to Sunset Animal Clinic runs deep—she’s been taking her pets there since she was eight years old. As a high school student, she shadowed the previous owners and later interned at the clinic while in veterinary school.
Her decision to pursue veterinary medicine was inspired by her first dog, Sam, who taught her the true meaning of unconditional love. Thanks to Sam, chocolate Labradors hold a special place in her heart.
Passionate about ongoing learning and growth, Dr. Acosta is committed to providing exceptional care for pets and their families. She values the relationships she builds through the shared love of people’s pets and aims to honor and glorify God through her work. In the future, Dr. Acosta aspires to embark on missionary trips to South Africa, where she hopes to offer veterinary services while sharing the gospel.
Outside the clinic, Dr. Acosta values quality time with her family and friends, especially with her Abuela Loyda (she’s Dr. Acosta’s favorite person in the world). On weekends, she enjoys the slower pace of life in Key Largo. Her dream is to one day own a farm with expansive land and a variety of cows amongst other animals. Her fur babies include Nash, a mini labradoodle who loves hiking and swimming, and Binx, a cat she rescued from Alabama.
Dr. Jackie Dueñas, Associate Veterinarian
Dr. Jackie Dueñas is an associate veterinarian and medical director at the dynamic Sunset Animal Clinic.
A true Miami girl, Dr. Dueñas obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology from Florida International University. Afterward, she attended Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine on the tropical island of St. Kitts, graduating with High Honors in August of 2017. Dr. Dueñas then returned to the Sunshine State to attend the University of Florida where she completed her clinical studies. Following graduation, there was no doubt that Dr. Dueñas would return home to practice in Miami. She is proud to serve the community in which she grew up and where she continues to raise her family, serving them, friends, neighbors, and their pets. Her areas of professional interest include soft tissue surgery, dermatology, dentistry, and emergency medicine.
Her love for her work shows in everything she does. Dr. Dueñas was featured on the Discovery+ series Pop My Pet, where she performed lifesaving surgeries on pets in need. She also likes to share her life as a veterinarian on her social media channels, garnishing her a large following and a platform to bridge the gap between veterinarians and pet parents.
Dr. Dueñas is most passionate about her role as a mom. She and her husband are the proud parents of two boys, Jacob and Nicholas. She also shares her home with her fur child Delilah, an Australian Shepherd, Daisy, a Golden Retriever, and her one-eyed cat Lucky.
Dr. Patty Khuly, Veterinarian & Practice Owner
Dr. Patty Khuly is a 1995 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania’s vet school and a 1997 graduate of its Wharton School. She attended Wellesley College prior to that, where she received a BA in art history alongside a pre-vet curriculum.
A Cuban-American Miami native and a decades-long Sunset employee, Dr. Khuly is part of the woodwork here. She started cleaning cages when she was ten and never left (apart from her years of schooling, of course). In 2014 she acquired the practice from Drs. Rochfort and Fawcett (whom she considers her two additional dads and the inspiration for her career).
Though Dr. Khuly currently concentrates on patient care rather than on cages, cleaning kennels is a fact of life for everyone at Sunset — even for “the boss.” In addition to her hectic home life (12 pets, one soon-to-be husband, and one human child, but who’s counting?) she maintains a busy writing career, too. Cooking, knitting, and lots of hot yoga are her preferred off-hours de-stressing tools.
